Superhi Basic Income
Product Development
Superhi Basic Income was an innovative project launched by Superhi to explore the intersection of financial support, creative careers and blockchain technology. The program provided $1,000 USD per month for six months, along with a MacBook Air or iPad Pro and a free SuperHi membership.
Superhi Basic Income was one of the more experimental projects we launched at Superhi. My role in the project involved researching how the program and project would work, vetting applications, and helping to build out the overall process.
In addition to the core mission of supporting creatives, we used our marketing budget — usually allocated for paid promotions — as the fund for the giveaway. This turned the initiative into a clever marketing tool with a strong social impact. The project was notable for its significant reach, with over 1 million visits to the site, over 22,000 applicants and seven selected recipients, ultimately sparking important conversations around basic income and creative work.
The program’s success in terms of both social impact and marketing reach was significant. It showcased how financial support could not only help individuals pursue their creative careers but also serve as an effective marketing tool. The program was widely praised for its transparency, using blockchain technology to publicly verify fund distributions.
