Plan, Design and Code Your First App
Learning Design
At SuperHi, I developed the Plan, Design, and Code Your First App course, a comprehensive program guiding beginners through the process of creating a simple iOS app.
Roles:
iOS Development, Senior Learning Experience Designer, Project Lead, Video Production
Having taught predominantly taught in a live format pre-covid, it was an interesting challenge to switch to recorded sessions. The contrast was quite daunting - no real time feedback from students, just me, my camera and mic! I loved coming up with challenges and interactive elements to help encourage active learning states and mirror the high energy enthusiasm I bring to all my learning experiences. The result - a jam-packed 8 hour video course, a go-at-your-own-pace program, that covers all the skills and tools you need to create a simple iOS app.
You’ll learn how to plan your work using Notion, send a proposal, contract and invoice to a client using Hello Bonsai, then moving on to supercharging your design skills by exploring how to create assets for different screen sizes with Figma.
Next up, we run through the process of coding your app with Swift and Xcode, pushing to GitHub as we go. No app should launch without being tested, so lastly you’ll be introduced to TestFlight and App Store Connect to get your app online.
You’ll finish the course having built a fun cat-themed yoga app - “Stretch and Paws” ready to show off to your friends or colleagues from your own phone. Purrrfect!
The course has empowered numerous beginners to successfully develop and launch their own iOS apps, receiving positive feedback for its structured approach and practical insights. It continues to serve as a valuable resource for aspiring app developers seeking a hands-on introduction to the field.
